METEOROLOGICAL SPRING BEGINS TODAY (MARCH 1ST)… LARGE TEMPERATURES SWINGS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS… A POTENTIAL WINTER STORM MAY IMPACT PARTS OF THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES ON MONDAY

Although Meteorological Spring starts today, the actual weather will not be cooperating over the next few days with the exception of Sunday, which will be quite nice. After a bitter cold day on Friday, temperatures will rebound today (Saturday) to closer to normal conditions but it will still be chilly. There will be lots of clouds around as a weak system passes through the region and a sprinkle cannot be ruled out. On Sunday, we will warm up quite nicely out ahead of a rather complex, but potent, frontal system. There is still a lot of uncertainty with this system and the forecast can change but right now, some models indicate that we may have accumulating snowfall later Monday. Rain is expected to develop and initially it will be quite mild. However, cold air will be surging into SE VA which should change the rain to sleet and then snow. So, stay tuned as this could be a major issue for the afternoon commute on Monday. Areas to our north will have a much better chance of significant snowfall on Monday. Meanwhile, California has been receiving copious amounts of rain which is causing mudslides and flooding in some areas. Forecasters say that the drought is not over for them but these recent storms have helped. That’s it for now. Have a great weekend.
