AN ARCTIC BLAST IS ON THE WAY… UNSETTLED WEATHER IS LIKELY AT THE END OF THE WEEK

After a very nice weekend for the middle of January, the weather is about to turn very wintry. A very chilly air mass is getting ready to sweep southeastward into the Mid-Atlantic States. Although a cold front did move through, Monday won’t be too bad. Temperatures will be seasonal. The real cold air won’t arrive until later Monday night and Tuesday. Temperatures on Tuesday will probably not get much above freezing during the afternoon. Wednesday will be another very chilly day. Wind chills will be very low so bundle up accordingly. No significant precipitation is expected until Friday. A frontal system is expected to bring some wet weather on Friday and it may last into early Saturday. The current thinking is that it will not be cold enough to support accumulating snow here in Hampton Roads. However, stay tuned as there is some uncertainty in the track and intensity of this system… This is, on average, the coldest time of year and so in just a couple of weeks, average temperatures begin to rise again. Keep that in mind on Tuesday and Wednesday when you’re shivering outside.
