WILL HAMPTON ROADS SEE MORE SNOW DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS?… EITHER WAY, THE WEATHER PATTERN MAY GET QUITE INTERESTING BY NEXT WEEK

After a relatively quiet period of weather this week, indications are that forecasters are going to once again have some forecast challenges starting with a system on Friday and then, attention will turn to a potentially more significant system by Tuesday of next week. First, let’s discuss the system on Friday. A fairly strong upper-level low pressure system will be moving into the Great Lakes and Northern Mid-Atlantic States by Thursday night and Friday. At the same time, a surface low pressure system is expected to slide south of us through NC and then move off the coast. This low is expected to intensify off the coast, hopefully not causing too many problems for our region. However, whenever there is a low passing south of us during January and there is enough cold air in place, forecasters have to be very cautious as it would not take much to produce accumulating snowfall. Right now, the forecast calls for just the chance of a little light snow or snow showers on Friday, but stay tuned. Then, all attention will turn to a much more potent system that may impact our region by Tuesday of next week. I’ll have updates on that system over the weekend. Thanks for reading.
