FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A VERY LONG TIME, NORFOLK INT’L AIRPORT IS ABOVE NORMAL IN ANNUAL PRECIPITATION… MILDER AIR MOVES INTO HAMPTON ROADS AS THE PATTERN BECOMES UNSETTLED AGAIN

Believe it or not, ORF is reporting above normal precipitation for 2008. I don’t think that ORF has reported above normal yearly precipitation since 2006. That is very good news! The very wet frontal system that moved slowly through our region last week brought over 3 inches of rain to many localities. This brought us enough rainfall to ORF to exceed our year-to-date normal total. Another period of unsettled weather is expected this coming week, although I don’t think that we are going to see as much rain as we saw last week. Milder air is on its way again which will make for a spring-like Monday. No significant rain is expected here locally on Monday. As a frontal system moves closer towards mid-week, rain chances increase on Tuesday and Wednesday. We should cool down again as the front drifts through our region. The big rain storm here a few days ago brought a severe ice storm to parts of the Northeast. Many power outages have occurred leaving folks up there with no heat. Milder air is expected up there this week¬†which is good news. Any sign of snow for us? Not really, but we are so overdue. Maybe the snow that fell in the New Orleans and Houston area last week is a sign that we might also see snow this winter.
